Pink Shirt Day is February 24th. It is an Anti-Bullying Day day when people wear a pink shirt to symbolize a stand against bullying, an idea that originated in Canada.
No matter where you are, you can get in on the importance of this day, too. People at your school could wear pink shirts, as much pink as they can, discuss and read books that discuss bullying, and bring awareness to it. Another idea is to read books and do activities that center around showing kindness to others.
You can celebrate Pink Shirt Day by recognizing kindness and uniqueness in your own classroom community. Students can color their own tee shirt or walk around the room with their blank shirt and have their classmates write kind, describing words about them on their tee. This is a great self confidence booster!
Use the note card to have your students write ways to be kind to another person, set a goal for when your students can do something kind for someone else, write about a way they were kind to another person, or write an encouraging message to another student on the card.
This Pink Shirt Day activity is a great tool for self reflection, community building, thinking of ways to be kind, and spreading love to others. Use this throughout the year in your classroom to bring out the best in others.
